REST IN GOD ALONE?!
I am at rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him. 2 He alone is my
rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will never be shaken. Psalm 62: 1-2
Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from Him. 6 He alone is my
rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will not be shaken. 7 My salvation
and glory depend on God, my strong rock. My refuge is in God. 8 Trust in
Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before him. God is our
refuge. Selah Psalm 62: 5-8
As we enter into the week we celebrate Christmas, how many people can truly
say that they are “at rest in God alone;”? We are so busy rushing from one
store to another, one event to another (even if it is for church event), and/or one
house to another for a family get together.
Are you at rest? When I read this chapter last week the Lord asked me if I was at
rest in HIM alone? I looked at my schedule, and I didn’t see that much going on.
But as I really thought about it, I realized my mind was far from being at rest. It
was running from one thing to another - distracted.
The word ‘rest’ (found in verses 1 & 5) was the peaceful living that God granted
to those who looked to HIM alone and sought to keep HIS covenant. You see,
rest isn’t just for our bodies, but it is also for our soul (our mind, will, and
emotions). The Lord wants to bring rest to our mind, will, and emotions during
this time. HE wants to quiet and remove the loud noise of loneliness, grief, fear,
sadness, shame, guilt, depression, despair, envy, doubt, jealousy, and
frustration…
HOW? Let’s read on in the scripture: Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope
comes from Him. 6 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I
will not be shaken. 7 My salvation and glory depend on God, my strong
rock. My refuge is in God. 8 Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out
your hearts before him. God is our refuge. We must surrender our mind, will,
and emotions to HIM, and STAND on the ROCK which is JESUS. No, it doesn’t
happen overnight, but every time we feel negative emotions try to invade our
REST, we can command the negative emotions to go in the name of Jesus while
we surrender our soul to HIM. When we do this practice, we won’t be shaken,
and we can find that place of REST. There is a reason the LORD repeated
Himself twice in those 8 verses. HE knew that we needed to come into HIS Rest!
So this week, STOP and REST in HIM. This week is all about HIM, anyway!
Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from Him.
Love,
Tina
