Mind God’s Business
1 Corinthians 2:10-16
10 But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. 11 No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. 12 And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.
13 When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. 14 But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. 15 Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. 16 For,
“Who can know the Lord’s thoughts?
Who knows enough to teach him?”
But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.
It’s kind of hard to wrap our brains around, but we have exclusive VIP access to the mind of Christ. Through intimacy with Holy Spirit, we can partner with God by hearing His thoughts. What a generous Father! I shudder to think about the idea of my children knowing what I’m really thinking sometimes. So then, what does that look like to have God's thoughts, otherwise known as the “mind of Christ”. It means that if I create a discipline of learning God’s character through His Word, I can actually hear Him over my own thoughts or emotions, through the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s kind of like having a super power. It requires that I commit to leaving behind my own agenda and desires, that don't align with His. This is totally worth it and can make any valley of dry bones come to life, if I partner with Him through His thoughts.
Let's practice…
Think of any situation in your life you’d like to see God bring change or restoration. Now, go find any applicable Scripture that speaks truth into that specific situation. As you read that Scripture, allow yourself to hear God speak it over you in a language that resonates with your thoughts. As you hear God speak through your thoughts, you can apply this as the truth that navigates your life. This is engaging with the mind of Christ. Of course, if you have not experienced the presence of Holy Spirit, this all will sound crazy. But for us who have tasted and seen, when we yield ourselves to God’s thoughts we will see our lives shift and change into His image. It’s a pretty good deal! I give Him me, and He gives me Him in return.
Love,
Pastor John
