Out of Sight

But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” (I Corinthians 2:9 NKJV)

As God the Word speaking through Paul was explaining to the Corinthian Church, there are many things the natural mind cannot understand, comprehend, or figure out apart from revelation of the Holy Spirit.

The startling truth is that (as explained in verse 8) the rulers of this age, both human and demonic, would have NEVER crucified Jesus if they could have seen what they were about to unleash in His death and resurrection. In their limited view, they thought they had defeated God; but with perfect vision, God defeated death, hell, and ultimately the fall!

Two points are obvious:

  • Even as Christians, we are bound by blindness, deafness, and dullness apart from the Holy Spirit. We cannot comprehend the wonderful things God has prepared for us bound by our human minds! The Holy Spirit is not an add-on to our faith; He is the only way for us to live out faith in this fallen world. Some of the Corinthians were stuck in perpetual childhood ignorance because they were resisting Holy Spirit.

  • Holy God has a vantage point, perfect vision, and perfect love that is out of sight! Even as we walk in Holy Spirit Baptism and into Spiritual maturity, there are things above our grade level, things above our pay grade, things outside our ability to see and to comprehend.

Even as mature and maturing Spirit-filled believers who experience the deep things of God and walk in daily revelation of the Word by the Spirit, we cannot fully comprehend the great things God has prepared for us!

Life throws us many curveballs. We see them one way; often Father sees them in a vastly different way. Part of Spiritual maturity is learning to trust what the Spirit has revealed to us about the Character of Father and Son so that we can walk in trust of Him when our eyes don’t see the value or the purpose of the situation; when our ears don’t hear the solution; and when our mind can’t make sense of the pain or rejection or hurt…

Can we believe that regardless of the curveballs thrown at us by a fallen world and fallen angel, our Father in heaven sees an opportunity to do great things in us and over us and through us?

Can we believe that the rulers of this age would have never messed with us if they could have seen what the Father was going to bring to fruition—to fruit—in our lives through His perfect love?

The love of our God is truly out-of-sight! He reveals deep things to us by the Spirit and calls us to a place of maturity to trust Him when life makes no sense. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known (1 Cor. 13:12).

You and I get to trust now in a Love that is perfectly beyond our wildest hopes or dreams. We get to trust now in a God who is never taken off guard or surprised by Evil’s shrewdness. We get to know now, even in our relative dimness, the Face of the one we will soon see Face to Face!!!
